by Chongo
Everthing there is to know about carabiners as thay are applied to the big wall environment.
EXCERPT:
Virtually every last piece of gear, the members of the team, in short, EVERYTHING on a wall is ultimately connected somehow and in some way with a carabiner. Carabiners are the "glue" that attach everything to everything else. Organizing the carabiners is the first step to organizing all the rest of the gear because carabiners need to be ready before anything can be attached to anything else. This is what should be done before they are used to build the racks and attach the appropriate gear to the appropriate gear slings, tethers, etc. Before they're utilized, they need to be separated, counted, and segregated by weight, strength, shape, size, and other criteria so that they might be put to use in the most advantageous way. There are a variety of different uses to which carabiners will be put. Correspondingly, there are a variety of carabiners existing for the sport of rockclimbing. Clearly, not all carabiners are created, or to be more precise, not all carabiners were designed, equally.
